The deal will equip German troops in Lithuania with NATO-standard medical support.
Germany’s Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) has awarded Rheinmetall a framework contract to supply protected mobile medical facilities worth more than €300 million ($349 million). Agreed in September 2025, the agreement covers six systems, with first deliveries to the German Armed Forces due in 2029. The contract runs until 2040 and allows for additional orders.
The Role 2B-standard facilities are designed for rapid deployment to meet national and alliance defence needs. Each system comprises 11 vehicles paired with multifunctional containers that can be configured for clinical tasks. The containers will be mounted on HX military trucks built by Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles, giving the units strategic mobility and protection in the field.
The new capability is intended to support German troops stationed in Lithuania, enhancing on-the-ground medical care and evacuation capacity. The mobile design enables swift set-up and relocation, aligning with NATO requirements for flexible, forward-deployed medical support.
Rheinmetall Project Solutions will implement the programme. The unit, led by managing director Dr Deniz Akitürk, will coordinate production and integration across the vehicles and containerised modules throughout the contract period.
The award continues a busy year for Rheinmetall’s work with the Bundeswehr. The company recently provided the Boxer Skyranger 30 air defence vehicle for testing, and in January the armed forces placed a separate order for 568 new logistics vehicles worth over €330 million ($384 million), including 349 UTF trucks in 5-tonne and 15-tonne variants and 219 swap-body trucks.
